Laptop Repair in Alexandria, MN
Laptops are the most-repaired device in our shop. They get dropped, sat on, spilled on, stuffed in tight backpacks, run hot for years on couches and beds. We see it all. Customers come from Alexandria, Nelson, Garfield, Carlos, Holmes City, Osakis, Sauk Centre, Glenwood — central Minnesota brings their broken laptops to 610 Broadway St.
What We Repair
Cracked Screens
Dropped or stepped on. We replace the LCD or OLED panel with a quality match. Common laptop models like ThinkPads, Dell Latitudes, MacBook Pros — same-day if part is in stock. Less common models 1–3 days for parts. We quote up front; pricing depends on the panel.
Liquid Spills — Data Recovery Focus
Coffee in the keyboard. Wine on the keyboard. Toddler with a juice box. Critical first step: turn it off, unplug, do not turn back on. Bring it in fast. We fully disassemble, clean the components, replace anything obviously corroded, and reassemble. Quick action gives the best chance of saving the laptop.
Important: We do not warranty liquid damage repairs. Corrosion is unpredictable — a laptop that powers on after our work may develop new issues weeks later as corrosion spreads. For liquid damage our primary focus is recovering your data. If the laptop is fully functional afterward, that is a good outcome but not something we can guarantee.
Battery Replacement
Wont hold a charge. Dies in an hour. Swollen battery pushing the trackpad up. We replace with a fresh battery — many laptops feel new again with this single fix. On modern Apple Silicon MacBooks the battery is more involved (glued in, not a tray) but still very repairable.
Keyboard Issues
Sticky keys, missing keys, dead keys, the whole keyboard intermittent. Some laptops we can replace individual keys; most are full keyboard swaps. Apple butterfly keyboards (2016-2019 MacBook Pro era) are a known issue we know how to handle.
Hinges & Cracked Cases
Hinge that creaks, lid that wont stay open, cracked corners from drops. We replace plastic shells, repair hinge mounts, and rebuild the structure. Often saves the cost of a new laptop when the rest of the machine is fine.
Hard Drive / SSD Replacement
Slow boot, clicking sounds, wont start. We replace and migrate your files so you don’t lose photos, documents, or installed programs. SSD upgrades on older laptops are one of the most cost-effective performance boosts available — a 5-year-old laptop with a fresh SSD often boots in 10 seconds and feels new.
Charging & Power Jack
DC jack thats loose. USB-C charging port that wont detect. MagSafe issues. We replace the port and the laptop charges reliably again.
Microsoldering & Board-Level Repair
When a laptop wont power on, has a damaged charging circuit, liquid damage on the board, or a torn FPC connector, the answer is often microsoldering rather than a $400+ logic board replacement. We do component-level repair on damaged FPC connectors, individual ICs, capacitors, resistors, and traces. Liquid damage corrosion cleanup, USB-C port replacement, charging chip replacement — board work that most shops will not touch.
Cooling & Overheating
Laptop running 90°C, fans screaming, throttling under any load. Almost always dust buildup and dried thermal paste. We do a full internal cleaning, fresh paste, sometimes new fans. The performance difference is often huge.
Brands We Service
Dell, HP, Lenovo (ThinkPad, IdeaPad, Yoga), ASUS, Acer, MSI, Razer, Apple (MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air — Intel and Apple Silicon), Microsoft Surface, Chromebooks, gaming laptops, business laptops. If it folds in half and has a screen, we can fix it.
Software Issues Too
Wont boot, blue screen of death, virus infection, slow performance, lost files, OS reinstall, missing drivers, broken updates. We do the full software side as well as hardware.

- 30-day warranty. Our work is guaranteed.
Common Questions
Is it worth fixing an older laptop or buying new?
Depends. A $200 laptop battery and SSD upgrade on a decent 2018 ThinkPad makes more sense than buying a $500 budget laptop with worse build quality. A $400 logic board repair on a 2015 MacBook does not. Bring it in or call us with the model — we will give you a straight answer.
Can you recover data from a laptop that wont turn on?
Almost always yes. The drive is usually fine even when the laptop is dead. We pull the drive, recover the data, and either fix the laptop or transfer to a replacement. See our data recovery page.
Do you fix MacBook screens and batteries?
Yes. See Mac Repair for Apple-specific information including Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) considerations.
How long does laptop screen replacement take?
Same-day if we have the panel in stock — common ThinkPad, Dell, HP, Apple models often are. Less common models 1–3 days for parts. We can give you an exact answer once we know the model.
